Planning Assessments
In recent years, changes to national planning policy has made it difficult to interpret local noise planning policy. We pride ourselves in negotiating this process with a commercial, client focussed approach to ensure reasonable and beneficial noise criteria are secured.
With a solid foundation in acoustical theory and access to the most modern noise modelling software, the team are able to approach planning problems from numerous angles; with securing planning permission being the ultimate goal.
Through this approach we are proud to say that we have a 100% planning success rate.
Our expertise includes;
- Construction Noise and Vibration Assessments and Monitoring
- Plant Noise and Vibration Assessments and Monitoring
- Road Noise Assessments and Monitoring
- Outline and detailed Residential, Commercial, Education, Industrial Planning Applications
- Noise Modelling.

Noise Modeling
Noise modelling of plant noise enables the client / local authority a visual representation of noise propagation across a development site. Although not suitable for all sites, a noise model can help target the source of noise and allows a re-iterative noise control design without re-design fees.
At the outset of the project, we will discuss the usefulness of a noise model with the design team. Usually, noise models are not appropriate as they have an upfront set-up cost, however, for sites with numerous noise sources that are likely to change location and specification during the design process a noise model can be invaluable.
The noise model will allow visual feedback of any design changes in seconds, whereas re-calculating through hand calculations can be time-consuming and prone to error.
Although not suitable for all projects, noise modeling can be a cost-effective way of managing large scale variations to complicated projects.
Often for planning purposes, internal noise levels are predicted and facade sound insulation requirements are calculated, however, these can be inaccurate when based on a single noise measurement location.
CSG Acoustics can provide supplementary noise level measurements and subsequently can model façade incident noise levels in detail, which can lead to significant cost savings when specifying glazing/façade elements.
Contact a member of our team to discuss whether a noise model may be beneficial for your project.
Building Acoustics
Residential sound insulation requirements are controlled via building regulations, and specifically the requirements of Approved Document E. However, there is a raft of different types of developments that require design criteria and performance specifications that are beyond the scope of the Building Regulations.
CSG have experience in the design of many acoustically challenging spaces, including cinemas, bowling alleys, gymnasiums and night-clubs, all of which require differing acoustical solutions to ensure optimum sound insulation.
Our expertise includes;
- Wall and Floor design to minimise noise transfer to adjacent spaces
- Wall and Floor design to meet Building Regulations and Approved Document E/BREEAM
- Plant room design to mitigate break-out noise
- Specification of glazing and external façade constructions
- Review of architectural drawings
- Cinema Design
- Post completion sound insulation testing.
Plant Noise Assessments
With unrivalled experience in the design and supply of noise control products; some say CSGA have an unfair advantage when tackling plant noise assessments.
Our understanding of mechanical systems and the associated noise control methods allows us to solve problems with innovative real world solutions.
How often do acoustic consultants present unrealistic expectations in terms of noise control performance or footprints for acoustic attenuation? We see it daily – a disconnect between the real world of installation and the eagerness to provide a solution for the acoustic alone.
We understand all about maintaining airlow, keeping pressures low and ensuring suitable access and maintenance to the plant item.
With this peerless knowledge the CSGA team are able to present realistic and practical solutions that meet the acoustics without neglecting other design considerations.

Design And Specification Of Noise Control
CSG Acoustics in conjunction with Acoustic Hardware Ltd. can design and specify noise control solutions for the most demanding of projects.
Whether local planning authorities are looking for an indication of the bulk of noise control or the client is simply trying to understand the feasibility of a site, we can help teams visualise the final acoustical architecture.
By providing noise control design drawings, difficult height restrictions (particularly in central London) can be accommodated and absorbed into designs, and bespoke enclosures can be inclusive of most architectural anomalies.
We can provide a performance specification and outline drawing for your project that can be taken to various suppliers, enabling the designs to be used in a competitive tender.
Installation Of Noise Control
Our team of installers are the most experienced in the business, in coordination with Acoustic Hardware Ltd, they’ll get the job done right and safely.
Members of the Safe Contractor scheme, our team will ensure that the noise control solution designed will be installed as intended.
All installs are overseen by our consultancy team, to ensure a seamless transition from design to site, giving you the peace of mind that the acoustics are safeguarded against workmanship and onsite anomalies.
From the trickiest rooftop installations to simple AC unit enclosures in back gardens, we can do it all.
